Stoping The Violence In Predominantly African American Neighborhoods Via Social Networking Sites

Another very important problem in predominately African American neighborhoods is violence.  Violence occurs a lot in these neighborhoods and social media sites are a way to get the word to stop the violence out to the public. Social media sites are very influential tools. If i can start a twitter and a facebook page and get people to support them it may change the minds as well as influence people to stop the violence.  Also these pages can let the public know about personal experiences that people go through who live in such neighborhoods. Also I will post videos and personal statement on these social networking sites of what goes on daily in these neighborhoods.  These videos and personal statements will let people who are not from or do not know what goes on in these neighborhoods know that their help is needed.  Also feedback from the public such as ideas, opposing views, criticism, and helpful advice can be collected through social networking sites.  Basically, social networking sites will serve as the main instrument of communication for this project.

  1. This sounds like a really good idea. So many people use social networking sites on a daily basis anyway, they might as well see positive things up there. The testimonials also sound like they would be a good idea. Some people may not believe some of the stuff posted but if they hear and see it first hand it may change their perception.

  2. I love the idea of using social media sites to help bring awareness to violence in African American communities. Being that over 75 percent of youth uses social media sites alone says that this plan, if successful, and prove to be very affective and beneficial. I agree violence has become a growing issue among African Americans and educational awareness should be utilized to help change this. I know a lot of people who have used Twitter and Facebook to help bring awareness to their cause and a lot of times they are able to make a difference.

  3. This is a pretty cool concept. Whenever I get on FaceBook I almost always see someone talking about a fight or someone they know getting shot and/or killed. Nine times out of ten the people that they are talking about are African American. With your idea it can hopefully reverse what's going on around the country and stop the black on black crime that is on the constant increase.
